Have you ever wondered how many English words you know? If so, you can try the British Council’s Vocabulary Challenge to check your English word knowledge!

By taking the Vocabulary Challenge you  are not only testing your knowledge but you are also supporting Unicef. 

Every time a student enters a correct word, the British Council will give 1p (£0.01) to Unicef until our £2,000 target is met!

We are looking for Spanish, German and Chinese native speakers to take the Vocabulary Challenge and be a part of this international project.

By taking the Vocabulary Challenge you are not only testing your knowledge and perhaps learning some new English words, you are also supporting UNICEF.

For every word you attempt in the Vocabulary Challenge the British Council will donate to UNICEF on your behalf. With your support, the British Council hopes to raise up to £2,000 to help UNICEF support innovative education programmes across the world that give the most vulnerable children the chance to learn. Why we are collecting this information?

Some words are more likely to be known by English learners than other words. The Vocabulary Challenge project aims to find out which of 7,000 of the most common English words Spanish, German or Chinese learners of the English language know.

All information collected through the Vocabulary Challenge is anonymous and will be used for research purposes only.
